Professor Lei Huang is one of the leaders in the field of adaptive optics, especially in the research on the deformable mirror, the beam quality control and the adaptive interferometric null testing. He revealed the temperature response characteristics of deformable mirror and virtually eliminated the detrimental influence on surface shape quality. He developed new technologies for the flexibility of Shack-Hartmann wavefront sensing and innovative methods for high beam quality control in laser system. He creatively developed an adaptive interferometric null testing method for freeform optics, which remarkably overcomes the dynamic range limitations of conventional null testing approaches during unknown freeform optics metrology or optics manufacturing processes. Professor Lei Huang has made great progress in technology development.
Professor Lei Huang published more than 100 peer-reviewed journal papers and his work is widely internationally cited by his peers. In 2007 and 2008, his articles were awarded China Top 100 Impactful International Research Paper Prize. He was invited to present his work in the international conferences and make topic reports in universities and research institutes. He has 50 patents issued and multiple ones licensed to industries. In 2011-2018, Professor Lei Huang was granted China Ministry of Education Natural Science Award (2 times), China Ministry of Education Technological Innovation Award (2 times) for his innovative contribution in the research field of adaptive optics.
